Local and Regional Government - Recent Project List
Woking Borough Council - An evidence base for development for development of their LDF Core Strategy
This modelling exercise was used to inform development of a Carbon based target for new building developments in Woking Borough for inclusion in the Council’s Core Strategy. Feasibility and potential impact of a range of percentage targets was assessed in terms of indicators for energy saving and carbon dioxide mitigation as well as consequential costs and financial benefits. Five typical developments were chosen and these were modelled for four different renewable energy percentage targets using a Sustainable Energy Compliance Assessment Tool developed by ecsc.
Nottingham County Council - Development of an evidence base to inform an SPD on sustainable energy
ecsc is currently working with the Local Planning Authorities in Nottinghamshire along with the County Council to develop a common policy framework for sustainable energy integration into new developments in Nottinghamshire. This includes modelling of seven development types with various threshold options for a merton style policy. The results will be used to inform development of a SPD on Sustainable Energy to be adopted by the Local Planning Authorities.
Lewes District Council - SPD on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
In 2005, ecsc was funded by the Energy Saving Trust to work with Lewes District Council on production of an SPD entitled “Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency - Planning guide for householders and small businesses”. This was formally adopted by the Council in February 2006.
Greater London Authority - Review of the impact of the energy policies in the London Plan on applications referred to the Mayor
In conjunction with London South Bank University, ecsc has quantified energy and carbon savings gained from energy polices in the London Plan as well as identifying how and where (in the planning process) maximum savings were achieved so that recommendations could be made to feed into the GLA London Plan policies and planning process.
Energy Saving Trust - A model framework for an SPD document on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
In 2005 ecsc was funded by EST to draft a model SPD for the South East to further sustainable energy. The document attempts to resolve a number of the controversies and clarify issues surrounding sustainable energy and the planning system, by providing a policy base and easy to follow processes. The model SPD contains a Merton style percentage on-site renewable energy requirement for new developments. The model SPD had been circulated widely in the South East and beyond.
London Borough of Ealing- Sustainability for Ealing
ecsc was commissioned by Ealing Council to benchmark the Council’s sustainability performance in the areas of energy, water, waste and procurement through participative workshops with council officers. This information was then used to provide recommendations for the Council to move forward in development of an Environmental Sustainability Strategy for Ealing.
