Keep the Home Fires Burning (KHFB)

Working with the Southdown NHS Trust in Brighton & Hove is key to the scheme’s success. The scheme provides the resources and advice to help service users get the assistance they need, without the added burden of chasing up referrals and filling out forms.

Through the scheme, householders can access grants for central heating systems, boiler replacements, insulation for walls, roofs and pipes, heating controls and other measures.

Caseworker

A dedicated caseworker operates the referral network, acting as first point of contact for Healthworkers, householders and grant providing bodies. Once a ‘client’ is referred, the caseworker will ‘handhold’ them through the entire process, whether applying for a grant from government or Council, applying for funds to improve their home or simply providing useful advice. Having the caseworker removes many of the traditional barriers associated with a health referral scheme.

Keep the Home Fires Burning is also working closely with Anchor Staying Put. Any one referred to the scheme will have direct access to their range of services including, home improvement assistance, advocacy, advice and much more.

Training

Keep the Home Fires Burning offers training sessions to key front line health workers. Training sessions are designed to be flexible and can fit in to existing team meetings, taking between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on time available.
